柴又勧農事績碑 | Monument for achievement of Shibamata encouragement of agriculture

天保年間(1781-1788)あいつぐ飢饉や洪水、天災によって当時の農民の生活は窮状を極め、各地に百姓一揆が起こりました。ここ柴又村でも貧しさのために村を捨てるものも多く、田畑は荒れてきました。名主の七郎右衛門は他の村役人と図り柴又村の人々に質素倹約、勧農を守らせ、荒れ地改良を進めるなど村の復興に努めました。30年近くたった文政9年(1826)、子孫の村人達は先祖の努力と功績をたたえ、後の世の教訓とするためにこの碑を建てました。

Tempo Year (1781-1788), famines, floods and natural disasters were occurred one after another, so farmers' lives were extremely plight, and many peasants' revolts were happened in various places. In here Shibamata village, many farmers abandoned the village because of their poverty, then the plowland had become rough. The village headman Shichirouemon and officers of a village together made Shibamata village people for keeping simplicity and frugality style and tried to encourage agriculture and to improve land, and rebuild the village. Thirty years later, Bunsei 9th (1826), the descendent villagers built this monument to praise their ancestors' efforts and achievements, and to make it lessons for succeeding generations.
